“You are the God who sees me.”

(Genesis 16:13)

“How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”

(John 1:48)

As a young girl it was easy to reach the bottom branches. As I stood there peering into the evening sky, the willow oak now towers over the house I grew up in. I could never begin to climb it.

I sat under it, I hung from its branches.
Now I couldn’t begin to reach them.

He saw me under the tree. He knew me then and I know Him now.

He sees and knows us. He calls to us to come and sit in the stillness of His shade.

Whatever our age, we can reach our Savior. We can climb and swing from the branches of His grace and find life.

Do you know that He sees you? Don’t you want to swing and soar?

Lord, the towering trees remind us of your majesty. Low branches remind us that You are within reach. You see us. You know us, and You want us to know You. Amen.
