Hello 2021! How do you feel about it? Anticipation? Fear? Ho-hum? Excited? Whatever it is, it’s unknown territory, and like it or not, we are diving in! Makes me think about jumping off the diving board when I was a kid. My mom or dad would tread water in the deep end and I would faithfully jump off and they would catch me. What if we jumped into this new year with confidence? Confidence that whatever water we are gonna find ourselves jumping into, that we would truly know Our faithful Father is there, ready to catch us in the deep waters. Cause He is! What if we could swim in this truth together? Cause we can and we are … Continue readingDiving In
Christmas for me surfaces a mix of emotion. Joy bubbles up big time, yet suffering places also seem to surface in magnitude, maybe not outwardly, but deep down I feel them. Do you know what I mean? Behind our family picture, I rejoice big time! But don’t be fooled, there’s no perfect family. I acknowledge the bumps of struggle, celebrate the deep love that has been sown in hard places; all the victories and all the heartfelt memories that can’t be taken. The Lord has done great things, beyond my wildest dreams. I am overjoyed. Yet, if I’m honest, I have sorrow too. Deep down sorrow over brokenness; not just in the world, but in circles close by. I ache for … Continue readingChristmas Sparks Joy, Invites Hope
Poor grandma, she got run over by a reindeer? Who came up with this song? I’ve never been run over by a reindeer, but I’ve been run over by the world; some heartbreaks & some real disappointments. I know I am not alone. Grandpa & Grandma believed in reindeer. I believe we’ve all been run over! The ONE conceived by the Virgin Mary mends our hurts and will never run us over or let us down. Have you run into Jesus? It’s almost inconceivable, but believing is receiving. “In this world we will have trouble,” we do have trouble, it gets messy ~ but Jesus has “overcome the world” & He longs to live in our hearts & help us overcome, … Continue readingGramma Got Run Over?
Jesus said, “I am the Light of the World. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” (John 8:12) “We look for light, but all is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows. Like the blind groping along the wall, feeling our way like people without eyes. At midday we stumble as if it were twilight; among the strong, we are like the dead.” (Isaiah 59:9-10) It’s hard walking around in the dark, we can easily lose our way. While we were stumbling around in the dark, The Light of the World entered in! It was on a silent and holy night. “Silent Night, Holy … Continue readingIt Was On a Silent Holy Night
Morning by morning our moods shift and our circumstances waiver, yet, the Son never changes and is still worthy of all our praise. The Son is the object of our Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is tied to the finished work of Jesus Christ on our behalf. There is always a reason to sing. A misty morning song ~ Sing songs, hymns and spiritual songs to the One who is with us in all places. He who looks with compassion on all our ruins, whose redemption waters pour over our wastelands and deserts. The One who places a crown of salvation on our unworthy heads. With us on the mountaintops and in the valleys, our escort to the shores of eternity. Forever faithful … Continue readingMisty Morning Thanksgiving Song
This outcome is for sure. Cling to it! “You, O Lord, sit enthroned forever; You are eternally sovereign.” (Psalm 102:12)
“Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale?” Isaiah 40:12 The world is all about scales and credentials, checks and balances, ladders and lists. It can really trap you and take you down fast. Yet, the One who measures the ocean in His hands doesn’t keep credentials, but keeps His Word. He says that His love for us outnumbers the grains of sand! Let this trap tumble and fall and this truth wash onto the shores of our hearts! Your magnificence is too great to measure. More amazing is that Your very … Continue readingThe Measure of Our Worth
Breezing through the local market, I stumbled upon this coffee mug and I brought it home for keeps. I certainly didn’t need it, but I loved the message it spoke to my heart. Inscribed on the mug — “It is well with my soul.” My immediate thought was what it doesn’t say ~ It doesn’t say ~ “It is well with my circumstances, well with my emotions or well with my record.” ~ It is well WITH MY SOUL.” We can get a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling physically refreshed, but soul rest reaches so much further; beyond our current struggles and past mistakes. It allows us to say, even so, it is well. In the deepest places of my … Continue readingIt Is Well, It Really Is
