“Enlarge your tent, make room for more, stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, lengthen your tent ropes, make your stakes firm in the ground. (Isaiah 54:2)
“Live” in the greek is always used for “pitch your tent.” It hints to establishing oneself in a particular place; it’s a shift in location, purpose, or faith. Our bodies are described as tents, temples of the living God.
Job was a man whose life was falling apart. He had every reason to bow out. He had lost it all. YET, He didn’t. Instead His tent of trust expanded as his trials became more intense. He didn’t allow falsehood or doubt to intrude. He purposed to shift his eyes to the Almighty, despite his lot. As I pondered his journey, I found some insights to keep my stakes firm in the ground.
Take out your holy hammer, sweep out your tent, reinforce your dwelling.
“If you devote your heart to Him, and stretch out your hands to Him, if you allow no lies to dwell in your tent, THEN, you will lift up our face without shame, and stand firm without fear. Life will be brighter than noonday, darkness will become morning and you will rest secure.” (Job 11:13-19)
We are stretched in trials. Opening our hands signals we trust God’s sovereignty. We make more room for Him by keeping this posture and applying these key insights. The mystery is, that as we do, He proves His power.
How’s your tent?
We live on the other side of the cross. I think Job would’ve sung like this in his day. We can have “complete confidence” in Christ Jesus. Camp out here. God Is Not Against Me By: Brandon Lake
