“The Lord stood at my side and gave me strength.” (2 Timothy 4:17)
I love this vision, at the ready, to embolden us.
Taking a closer look, the full details read….
The Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, as I fought the good fight and finished my race.
It’s Timothy, running shoes laced up, on the move to spread the Good News, despite opposition.
Everyone had left him, but not the Lord.
The Lord tells us, “Don’t grow weary in doing good. Keep your head in all situations.” (2 Tim 4:5)
Timothy and many other disciples endured great suffering and rejection as they went to tell of the saving news of Jesus Christ. Martyrdom included. No wonder it’s tagged as a fight.
The Lord knows our tendencies, the weariness that head games can bring.
We think of changing our plans when up against opposition, but we’re called to boldly keep moving forward.
Our boldness comes from keeping our heads and our vision.
As the world runs wild, our race must rev up, not slow down.
Many will oppose the truth, chase mirages and catchy opinions to satisfy their own desires, but you, don’t flinch. Cling to God’s unfailing word. Keep your eyes on Jesus, your thoughts on His kingdom cause, and your faith to the finish. (2 Tim 4:3-5) Paraphrase
Do you see the Lord at your side?
Jesus stands at the ready to strengthen us.
Keep your head. Believe with all your heart, all the way. He will do right by everyone eager for His coming. Eager to do His will, no matter the cost.
“Lord. may the glory of Your name be the center on which our lives turn.” (Matt 6:9)
