“I am the Resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will never die.” (John 11:25)
My heart broke when I heard of a dear friend diagnosed with cancer. I wept. I thought, what should I say to bring her comfort? I then remembered how “Jesus wept,” with His friends.
What a raw picture. (John 11:35)
Lazarus had died. His friends, undone with sadness and questions. Jesus, where have you been? Why weren’t you here sooner?
It’s easy to think that the Lord has run far off when we face hard things, but this passage proves He’s near to the broken-hearted. He’s in touch with our pain and our fears.
His tears speak. His response does, too. He wasn’t too late.
Deeply moved, He stood at Lazarus’ tomb and called to him, “Come out.” Lazarus rose from the grave, the glory of God was revealed. (John 11:43)
None of us desire sickness or pain, suffering or trials. “Please, no, Lord.” It’s not counted easy, but it’s a reality. Death is, too.
Where can we find the comfort we truly need?
Jesus’ friends went to His tomb. Breathless and terrified, they found the stone rolled away, the grave empty, yet, their hearts were hushed upon hearing these words of assurance.
“There’s no reason to be afraid. I know you’re here looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here—He has risen victoriously, just as He said.” (Matthew 28:5-6)
The glory of God has been revealed.
Jesus stands at the door of our hearts and knocks, deeply moved. (Rev 3:20) “Hear Him that your soul may live.” (Isa 55:3) He wants to come in to comfort and assure us of our ultimate healing. He weeps that we’d rest secure in Him who holds all authority to escort us to the place where there’s no more pain, sickness or death.
It is just as He said.
“I am the Resurrection and the life. He believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die.” (John 11:25)
Are you clinging to Jesus? It’s not too late.
There’s no need to be breathless and terrified.
In Jesus, the outcome is victorious, no matter what. The best healing is covered.
The best is yet to come. Life eternal. Guaranteed. Believe and Receive.
