“Sell everything you have and come follow Me.” (Matthew 19:21)
I’m always filling bags with things to donate. Clothes I didn’t wear that season, household goods that are worn out or I don’t need anymore. I love to declutter and give things away. It makes me feel lighter.
I spotted a full bag I’d been toting around in the backseat of my car, and again heard the Voice of Truth.
“Sell everything and come follow Me.” (Matt 19:21) I say again because I’ve heard this whisper before. It brings pause, doesn’t it?
Is life a continual letting go? Donating empty pursuits? Decluttering doubt and deceit? Bagging up the temporary and dropping it off for the eternal?
His holy touch orchestrates this invitation to us with tender love. Taking His lead, He proves His purpose and a holy exchange is set in motion.
The more we donate, the more room we have for Jesus.
Sometimes we have a hard time donating the ways we’ve held to for so long. “We hold tight to them and don’t want to let them go.” (Luke 18:23) More often than not, we have to donate our understanding to receive fully what the Lord offers.
Yet, when we heed His voice, the pathway of life opens.
He desires to empty us of all that hinders and holds us hostage, so that, we can better see that He is truly our everything.
What will you bag up? It’s always worth it.
Life becomes lighter. His purpose and promises becomes brighter.
“You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11) Forever is a long time.
Today is the day to trust Jesus more, put aside the clutter and follow Him.
Don’t leave your donations in the backseat. XO
