Even If, Even Still

Posted on

I visited with a faithful friend to share my broken heart over an unexpected happening in my life. I went to her because I knew together we would cling to the truth. The truth that nothing comes into our lives without first passing through the Lord. The truth that dark things can step in, but the Lord can use everything for our good. That despite the enemy’s attempts to take us under, even still, in Jesus there is always victory.

I only had one choice, to trust in my Savior even more in the even if. We held hands and began to sing the song, do you know it? “Even If” By: Mercy Me. It’s a song of abandon. I know You’re able, and I know You can, save through the fire with Your mighty hand, but even if You don’t, my hope is You alone. I know the sorrow and I know that hurt would all go away if You just say the word, but even if you don’t, my hope is You alone.

Living hope is established and remains in the fire and the flood. In the unexpected happenings of our lives and in this whipping world, the steadfast love of Christ never changes. The greatest healing has already happened. “By His wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) Whatever comes our way, mercy has already won and the best is yet to come. The Lord desires that “inwardly we are growing stronger day by day.” (2 Cor 4:16-18) He can make us stronger in our afflictions.

What’s happening in your life? What’s happening in our world? Do you know that in all our even ifs, God is still trustworthy? What if our afflictions are eclipsed by glory? What if they are a chance to prove to us His power and presence in a way no other could have afforded? For when we have nothing left but to trust Him with complete surrender, we come into a place we never could’ve entered. Where we can say, without a doubt ~ My Redeemer lives. He is near. He is my hiding place. My eternal protection. He surrounds me with constant songs of deliverance. (Psalm 32:7)

Life can be so mysterious. But even in the mysteries, we can still trust the Author of our stories, the Author of our eternal futures. He’s forever on our side, perfecting our faith until we see Him.

Can you declare it? I’m not saying it’s easy, I’m saying that victory trumps the even ifs when we choose to trust the Lord more and more, no matter our lot in life. In joy and sorrow, Jesus is victorious. In every chapter, we can fully trust Him.

May the power of the Lord Jesus Christ rest on you wherever life finds you. Know that you’re held through all your days. Profess your need and profess His name. Hold onto these words, “It is finished!” “I will come back to get you.” (John 19:30, 14:1-4)

In all the even ifs, there are no ifs. Eternity is sealed through Christ Jesus and He alone is our only true and living hope.

I’ve found that the fires and floods of life that yield this result, ignite an undying desire to proclaim the goodness of God to which we should never resist. Take heart. He’s got you. He’s got us. Amen & Alleluia.
