Desires of the Heart

Posted on

We all have desires, some are good, they are a delight to us, to the Lord and to others. Other desires we’d prefer to take a hike, tied to habits and attitudes that take over and weigh us down. Then still there are more that we might not even realize.

Did you ever stop to wonder what God’s desire is? I found a little treasure in Psalm 51:6 ~ “I know You delight to set Your truth deep in my spirit.” Do you hear that? His delights to tell us the truth!

We all want truth, don’t we? But so often, I can forget to ask. I trip over my own inhibitions and forget to seek the Lord’s desires and let Him seek mine. Reading further, the Lord not only desires to tell us the truth, but He delights for us to want to hear it. ~ “So come into the hidden places of my heart and teach me wisdom.”

I want an honest relationship with people. How much more should I desire one with Jesus? I want to know the truth, don’t you? We are encouraged to open the pages of His Holy Word and to open our hearts without reservation, to say “Come on in!” It’s a call to invite the Lord to examine our thoughts and to teach us. In my experience, it has proven to be an ongoing process. The Lord is good at uncovering hidden things that are hurting us, leading us astray and hindering full life. His agenda is freedom for us. He delights to have mistruths take a hike, see our attitudes shift and the truth to be set deep in our souls.

God always tells the truth. He doesn’t want us tied to lies,
but His truth planted deep to grow us into an abundant life.
It’s His delight and it’s ours too when we welcome it.

Uncover places in us that aren’t hidden in You Lord. Help us to not draw back. Teach us. Shine Your light and bring us Your wisdom ongoing. Rid us of our thoughts that are tainted. Give us attitudes of humility to keep learning from You. We are so grateful for Your truth. Increase our desire for it, that we will walk and delight in it. Uncover Your word to us, plant it deep and grow us to desire Your wisdom more and more. Amen.

“It is impossible for God to lie, for we know that His promise and His vow will never change! And now we have run into His heart to hide ourselves in His faithfulness. This is where we find his strength and comfort, for He empowers us to seize what has already been established ahead of time—an unshakeable hope! (Hebrews 6:18)
