“Where there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.”
(Proverbs 10:19)
Did you ever bite your tongue in the middle of your meal? Seems to always happen when I am rushing to choke down my food. It no doubt slows me down and puts a halt to my chewing.
A friend once shared with me, “Bite your tongue ‘til it bleeds.” This bit into my life.
You see, I can tend to choke on my words when I really need to put a stop to them altogether. You too?
By slowing down, we have time to consider if what we are gnawing on is worthy of being said, and sometimes we need to hurry up and bite our tongues.
Lord, slow us down and get us up to speed on words of sweetness. Help us to rush this thought into the middle of our lives. May we never stop chewing on Your Word, allowing You to reshape what we say to others. Amen.
