“I cry out loudly to God, I plead for mercy. I spell out all my troubles in detail: As I sink in despair, my spirit ebbing away, You know how I’m feeling. I cry out, “You’re my only hope!” (Psalm 142:1-7)
My heart’s breaking, deeply struck by the devastation of the storms that hit Texas, the thought of these parents who dropped their kids to camp to never see them again, not to mention all the others who are deeply grieving.
“Why?” is a question we think we can’t ask, yet the scriptures give way to wrestle like this before the Lord.
Steven Curtis Chapman found himself devastated like this upon the tragic death of his five year old daughter. The life he once knew, suddenly uprooted, immense pain and intense struggle in the soul as he processed the aftermath.
He formed this song of lament. In full disclosure before God, He laid out his honest questions. His song helps us form words as we wrestle through the things we’re witnessing in our world.
“What do we do with a God who knows all and still allows darkness like this?
We beat upon His chest and then bury our faces in it. For where else would we go?”
(Jennie Allen)
We pray for the hurting, we run to the Lord. I share this song, send my love, and pray it will be a balm for your soul. Questions By: Steven Curtis Chapman
