I overheard a Mom and Dad speaking to their young daughter. My ears perked up when I heard the word “sacrifice” fill the air and what followed as they explained to her it’s meaning.
“It means you’re willing to lose something to gain something.”
Oh my heart. I’m not sure exactly what they were talking about, but so many thoughts came in like a flood. What comes to mind when you hear the word sacrifice? I love that they pointed out that it’s a “gain,” cause we don’t always think of it as gain. I began to quietly ponder in my heart and I heard the similar words of Jesus stir.
Jesus said to all of His followers, “If you truly desire to be my disciple, you must disown your life completely, embrace my ‘cross’ as your own, and surrender to my ways. For if you choose self-sacrifice, giving up your lives for my glory, you will discover true life. But if you choose to keep your lives for yourselves, you will lose what you try to keep.” (Luke 9:23-24)
It’s a loving call, “Lay down your life and your understanding, pick up Mine and you’ll gain the life you desire.” It’s a tall order from a wise God. Yet, isn’t He the One who knows best? The One who knows how He’s designed us? It holds relevance and promise to what could be gained in 2023. IF we choose it. What do think?
It’s all gain to heed His loving call. Walk this way with me?
“I count everything as a loss compared to knowing Jesus, my Savior.” (Philippians 3:8)

We have Joy filled lives when we live as Jesus did, by keeping the focus on Him & follow the leading of the Holy Spirit to focus on others & not ourselves.
Thank you Lori for your wise wds.

A true, sincere Christian will “sacrifice” whatever is required to help another person in need.
