Come as a child

Posted on

Before our first child arrived, we prepared in advance by researching the best equipment to travel safely, the softest sheets to sleep soundly and the precautions to ensure his well-being. We were embarking on new territory and prepared as best we could, but honestly, we had to learn as we went along. We really took the plunge the day he arrived on the scene.

I have been thinking a lot about taking the plunge with you here in this safe spot and have considered how we can best prepare to walk this way. I have thought on how no two people are in the same place and wondered, how in the world can we meet here and find common ground?

It occurred to me, the common ground we share will be the kind of heart we bring. And the way we come prepared will be by bringing the heart of a child. It’s then we are ready, no matter where we find ourselves. We all are on a road trip and we all are searching for the right equipment for safe travel.

God is waiting for our arrival and He has invited us to come. His invitation is for little children. (Matthew 19:14)

Maybe we are embarking on new territory here. We go into this territory with hesitation. I think it helps to sing this song and keep it humming deep down as we go along in life. I actually learned it early. It was in my black patent leather shoes and smoked dress that I rehearsed these words (I am thinking you know them too).

Jesus loves me this I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong.
They are weak, but He is strong.

We’ve most likely sung this song, but do we hear the message?
We are to be children at heart forever. We are weak. He is strong. We are always welcomed, forever learning. And He is ready, ready to receive us.

What if we held tight to our identity as little children? Our Heavenly Father welcomes our arrival. He is fully prepared for us. He will go the distance with us. He has our well-being covered on all sides and He is on the scene.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)

This I know ~ It’s only in the simplicity of child that we come into the Father’s embrace
and find that He is more than enough.

Lord, Your heart knows us and is for us to know You. Teach us. Like little children we look to You for answers. Teach as we go along. Help us to reach out for Your hand and hold it tight, trusting You more ~ that we may rest soundly in Your promises.
Thank you Father. We come as little children. Amen.
