It Is Well, It Really Is

Posted on

Breezing through the local market, I stumbled upon this coffee mug and I brought it home for keeps. I certainly didn’t need it, but I loved the message it spoke to my heart. Inscribed on the mug — “It is well with my soul.” My immediate thought was what it doesn’t say ~

It doesn’t say ~ “It is well with my circumstances, well with my emotions or well with my record.” ~ It is well WITH MY SOUL.”

We can get a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling physically refreshed, but soul rest reaches so much further; beyond our current struggles and past mistakes. It allows us to say, even so, it is well.

In the deepest places of my wandering, I admit, I thought maybe God’s grace couldn’t stretch that far, but He went out of His way to show me that it could. I’m struck by the profound impact of the rest my soul has found because of His staggering, breathtaking reach into my darkest corners. No good night’s sleep or good day can compare. I am truly free. My soul is well.

How about you? Are there things that linger and leave you questioning His complete love for you? Deep down places where with waves of unrest and uncertainty? Am I really forgiven? Or do you avoid coming as you are, scared of rejection?

I know, this grace, it sounds too good to be true, but we can be sure ~ “The arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear.” (Isaiah 59:10) He is able to hold every single part of you and me.  It is well, It really is.

Jesus bridged the gap and He alone makes our souls well. Not our record, but Christ alone.

My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought ~ My sin, not in part but the whole ~
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more ~ Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Forget the coffee mug, He wants to inscribe this truth on our hearts for keeps. It’s an unending and never-failing chorus. We are known and it is well. Meet me at the foot of the cross and let’s cry out Alleluias unending.

Lord Jesus, You wholly have us. In You alone, we are truly free. In You alone, our souls find rest. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved. Praise You Most High for reaching so low. Your scars cover ALL of our scars. It is well, it is well. Amen.
