Reigning

“The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.”
(‭‭Psalm ‭28:7‬)

Fall marks the time when the green leaves are transformed into russet, amber, gold, scarlet and crimson. They paint the crisp blue backdrop of the sky and reach out like hands clapping in the breeze. As their tint fades to sepia they prepare for a sky dive. Swaying back and forth, they dance happily in the air and come in for a landing.

Have you ever watched leaves rain?

In the stillness of an autumn afternoon years ago, my three-year-old son and I laid down for an intentional rest in the rain. We held hands and watched as they floated down to where we were and caught the ones within reach. Then, lifting them toward the sun, we caught the fine details running through each one. Their striking patterns and individual shapes told the story of the One behind the magnificence.

Leaves rain, God reigns.

These leaves get me. They dance as they fall. I don’t think of dancing and falling as synonymous, but maybe they are onto something.

Thinking further, and tracing all my days, I dance. I dance, because for every time I fall ~  He reaches for me, picks me up,  and lifts me to the Son.

These leaves really are onto something. This truly is something to dance about!

As we observe the vivid colors of the leaves and watch them dance in the air, let’s receive the message that they are singing.

Leaves rain, God reigns.

Lord, all creation shouts of Your magnificence. Our hearts are filled with joy and burst with thanksgiving. Amen.
