Bumping Heads

Posted on

“Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves.”

(James 4:1-2)

Boy, do I feel beaten up and downtrodden lately. Hitting heads with others hurts. When it’s with someone you love so deeply, it can bump even harder.

I’m trying to take a long hard look at why we seem to hit so hard these days. Getting in for a closer view, I can see it’s a battle of the wills. We both want our own way and neither of us will fold.

Wow, wasn’t really up for this magnified answer. I will say though, I’m more up for the answer than the continued pain of a hurting relationship.

Do you find yourself bumping up against this too?

It really is true, knocking heads most often boils down to the clash and collision of the wills. I will chalk up this lesson and write it into my relationships. Are you in?

Lord, help us not want what we want, but what You want, to surrender with Your help and look forward to less headaches. It’s a battle. We don’t want to be hardheaded. Help us fight the good fight and heal our relationships. Amen.
