A Dirty Word

“For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

(Psalm 139:13-14)

I wanted to be just like the popular girl in middle school.
I watched her closely and imitated her.
I wanted what it seemed she had.

It starts early in life.
We view others with a distorted view. We have flawed and fallacious thoughts that poke at us and convince us that their life is just right, free from heartache and all tied up with a pretty bow. We want what it looks like they have.

We play the game–Why can’t I have that? Why can’t my life be like theirs?
We lose joy and lose life when we live here.

I always quote my friend Theo, Theodore Roosevelt-“Comparison is the thief of all joy.”
My friend recently put it even better when she said – “Comparison, it’s a dirty word.”
It’ll rob you and hurt you.

I had to go looking for it in middle school.
In today’s world it can find us quickly, just with the click of a button.
Maybe we should click and swipe less and consider the Truth more?

Knowing what He says about us will clear our view and quicken and heal our hearts.

Full disclosure–There is no life free of hurt and baggage.

Look to the One who knows you and see what He says about you–
There’s nobody like you. There’s nobody like me. There’s none like Him!

There is none like You, O Lord. You are the master over all; each person unique, formed by Your hand and loved beyond measure. Shower us with Your Truth. May we reject this dirty word and rejoice in the work of Your hands, resting in who You created us to be. Amen. (Jeremiah 10:6)
